Hawk Watch with Scott Weidensaul

Join the Milton Conservation Commission and Moose Mountains Regional Greenways on Saturday, September 20, from 9 to noon, for a Hawk Watch with renowned ornithologist and best-selling nature writer Scott Weidensaul. Scott will share his deep expertise with participants as well as his experiences from over 40 years of working with birds in the field across the globe.

This popular annual event will have a new location this year – on private conservation land on Teneriffe Mountain in Milton.  This site has excellent visibility to the north to watch for migrating hawks and to enjoy the view of Mount Washington on a clear day.  A five-minute moderately steep walk to the viewing site will be required, as will the patience to wait for raptors to fly over.  It is a good idea to bring a portable chair, snack and water, hat and bug spray, sunscreen, and definitely binoculars; a few extra pairs may be available.

This event is free to all but is limited to fifteen participants and advance registration is required; click here to register. Registrants will get an email confirmation with details about parking and possible weather date. The event may be postponed to the same time on the following day, Sunday, Sept 21, if the tailwinds for migration look better or to avoid inclement weather.

Please feel free to contact the MCC with any questions at mcc@miltonnh-us.com.

Join us at at Teneriffe Mountain Forest!!

Moose Mountains Regional Greenways (MMRG), Partnering with Milton Conservation Commission, invites you to join us for a guided hike at Teneriffe Mountain Forest in Milton, NH, as part of our ongoing efforts to connect people with sustainable land stewardship.

The hike will be led by professional forester Tim Nolin, who will highlight and discuss the recent timber stand improvement (TSI) work he completed on the property. Throughout the walk, Tim will explain the goals behind the TSI practices, the specific methods he employed, and how these actions support both the ecological integrity and long-term productivity of the forest. This program offers participants the chance to see forest management in action and learn how responsible forestry can benefit both people and nature.

This event is ideal for landowners, conservation-minded individuals, and anyone interested in gaining a deeper understanding of forest health and stewardship practices.
