Union, NH — Moose Mountains Regional Greenways (MMRG) announces the permanent conservation of the Ingrid Johannessen Albee Memorial Forest Conservation Easement.
Located in Wakefield, New Hampshire, the 124 acre property contains a diverse mix of forestland, wetlands, and important wildlife habitat. Through this conservation easement, the property will be protected from future development, preserving its natural resources for generations to come.
The property plays an important role in protecting local water resources, with approximately 102 acres located within the wellhead protection area serving Sanbornville. Its wetlands, forested uplands, and vernal pools also provide valuable habitat for wildlife and contribute to the ecological health of the region.
Moose Mountains Regional Greenways was grateful to facilitate the conservation of this property with the Albee family and in memory of Ingrid Albee, who long hoped to see it permanently preserved. This project represents the best combination of water quality protection, recreational opportunities, wildlife connectivity and the personal element of conservation.
The easement further strengthens a network of conserved lands in the area. The property abuts more than 130 acres of conserved land and lies near the Cotton Valley Rail Trail, helping maintain connections between natural areas and supporting wildlife movement across the landscape.
The conservation of the Ingrid Johannessen Albee Memorial Forest reflects the importance of protecting not only individual properties, but also the broader network of natural resources that supports local communities and wildlife.
The conservation of the Ingrid Johannessen Albee Memorial Forest was made possible through funding secured by the NH Department of Environmental Services Drinking Water Groundwater Trust Fund (NHDES DWGTF), NHDES Local Source Water Protection Program, and many generous individual donors.
