Moose Mountains Regional Greenways Announces Permanent Conservation of the 87-Acre Lang Property in Wolfeboro, NH

Moose Mountains Regional Greenways (MMRG) and the Wolfeboro Conservation Commission are pleased to announce the permanent protection of the 87‑acre Lang Conservation Easement in Wolfeboro, NH. This marks MMRG’s first completed conservation project in the town, expanding a connected block of conserved land and strengthening a 5,000‑acre area of unfragmented forest in the region.

The Lang property directly abuts 145 acres of conserved land, creating an important corridor for wildlife movement and long‑term ecological resilience. According to NH Fish & Game, portions of the property rank among the highest‑value wildlife habitat in New Hampshire and the region, and The Nature Conservancy identifies key portions of the land as Above Average Resilience to climate change.

“MMRG is thrilled to complete its first conservation project in partnership with the Town of Wolfeboro, and with the support of the Wolfeboro-Tuftonboro Land Bank. This much anticipated project will formalize many years of cooperative work on natural resource protection and we look forward to future projects with these valued partners as we continue to increase our efforts and relationships in Wolfeboro and surrounding areas,” MMRG’s Executive Director Jillian Eldredge said.

The easement protects a diverse landscape of hemlock-hardwood forest, productive forest soils, 16 acres of wetlands, and approximately 400 feet of frontage along Young’s Brook, a tributary of the Saco River. Historic woods roads and stonewalls reflect the property’s cultural history, while its location within both the Winnipesaukee River and Saco River watersheds highlights its importance for regional water quality.

This donated easement was made possible through support from the State Conservation Committee Moose Plate Grant, Davis Conservation Foundation, Wolfeboro‑Tuftonboro Land Bank, Wolfeboro Conservation Commission, and private donors. MMRG extends sincere thanks to all partners and supporters whose commitment made this conservation achievement possible.
