Winter Tree ID Walk with Lindsay Watkins
Join MMRG and Lindsay Watkins, UNH Cooperative Extension county forester and county forester for Strafford and Belknap, for a winter tree identification walk at Teneriffe Mountain Forest in Milton Mills, NH. This ecologically rich property features primarily oak and mixed hardwoods, with dramatic changes in forest composition as the elevation changes. Highlights include a rare chestnut oak stand—possibly one of the northernmost in New Hampshire—and a critically imperiled pitch pine rocky ridge community. Learn how to identify trees without their leaves while exploring one of the region’s most fascinating forest landscapes.
Please wear blaze orange if possible. Dress appropriately for hiking in colder temperatures and bring any water or snacks you might like to have. This property has some steep inclines.
This event is weather permitting. We will reach out to participants if it needs to be cancelled or rescheduled.
