SAVE THE DATE and join us Saturday, September 26, from 9 to noon, for a Hawk Watch with renowned ornithologist and best‑selling nature writer Scott Weidensaul. Scott will share his deep expertise with participants, along with stories from more than 40 years of studying birds in the field around the world.
This popular annual event takes place at the Birch Ridge Community Forest, which rises over Merrymeeting Lake with stunning views of the northern mountains — including Mt. Molly, Mt. Bet, Mt. Caverly, and even Mt. Washington on a clear day. In partnership with MMRG, the Merrymeeting Lake Association, and the Town of New Durham, the Southeast Land Trust of NH (SELT) purchased Birch Ridge in June 2019, ensuring this remarkable landscape remains protected and accessible.
To make your morning comfortable, consider bringing a portable chair, water and a snack, a hat, sunscreen, bug spray, and — definitely — binoculars. A few extra pairs may be available.
Registrants will receive an email confirmation with any additional details, and a possible weather date. The event may be postponed to the same time on the following day, Sunday, Sept 27, if the tailwinds for migration look better or to avoid inclement weather.
