I'm homeschooling?
I’m sitting at my dining room table with my 2nd grader and Kindergartener. Like many of you, I never expected to be home-schooling. My town has a great elementary school. It’s brand new, award-winning, and has the most loving staff. I had written off any need for homeschooling. Yet here I am, with video conferencing, apps I don’t know how to use, and technology that seems easily overloaded. In this season, I know many parents are dealing with these same issues, and others are struggling with loneliness and cabin fever.
One thing I can always do to relieve anxiety is to go outside. It’s a big reason I work for Moose Mountains Regional Greenways, because mywork helps to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to spend time in thegreat outdoors. Even when things are going smoothly, we all have an intrinsicneed for fresh air. Especially during this stressful time, I am relishing theopportunity to teach my kids just how important nature is to our well-being.
Let’s start off today with a simple exercise: Wherever youare, and whoever you are with, just take a 5-minute break and go outside. Youcan stand on your front porch, or find a big tree to lean on, and just feel.Breathe in the air and feel the coolness in your nose. What else do you feel?Smell? Is there something you can taste? What do you hear and see?
Think about these things, and really notice them. Allow the nature around you to penetrate and relieve your worry and stress. Repeat as often as you want!
