Annual Meeting Features Silent Auction and Speaker Kevin Gardner

Moose Mountains Regional Greenways will hold its 2016 Annual Meeting on Sunday, April 17, from 12:30 to 4:30 pm at the Kingswood Greenside Tavern at Kingswood Golf Club in Wolfeboro, NH. This festive occasion will start with a cocktail/social hour and silent auction, followed by a buffet luncheon, award presentation, brief business meeting, update on MMRG conservation news, and a talk and demonstration by stonewall builder Kevin Gardner. In case of weather emergency, the event will be postponed to Monday evening, April 18, from 6 to 9 pm.Our featured speaker, Kevin Gardner, is a writer, teacher, tradesman, and lifelong resident of Hopkinton, NH. He has been building stone walls for more than thirty years in a family business known for traditional New England stonework and historic restoration of antique structures. He is also the author of The Granite Kiss: Traditions and Techniques of Building New England Stone Walls, published in 2001. Kevin’s talk will address topics such as the history of stone walls in New England, dry stone wall design and building techniques, and changes from historical to contemporary walls. Learn why New England came to acquire its thousands of miles of stone walls, how their styles emerged and changed over time and their significance to the New England landscape. Kevin will illustrate his talk by creating a miniature stone wall before our eyes as he speaks.Proceeds of the silent auction support MMRG’s land conservation and educational outreach work. All auction items are generously donated by area businesses and individuals. This year’s selection includes a handmade quilt, Lake Winnipesauke Chocolates, a Trager massage session, a luxury vacation week on Lovell Lake (see photo), a hand-crafted kayak paddle, local maple syrup, a Lovell Lake fishing trip, a cord of firewood, and a guided lobster trip (see photo). If you have an auction item to offer, please contact MMRG Administrative Coordinator Kam Damtoft; contact information is given below. The public is invited to join this annual community celebration of Moose Mountains Regional Greenways. Spaces are limited, however, and advance payment by April 8 is requested; the cost is $30/person. The buffet luncheon will feature choices of salads, a soup, pinwheel wraps, a pasta entrée and two desserts. Most dietary restrictions can be accommodated. We are now reserving for our waiting list; please inquire of Kam Damtoft at (603) 473-2020 or email info@mmrgnh.org.MMRG would like to thank Norman Vetter Foundations, Inc. for its generous business sponsorship of this event.NormanVetterLogo
